How to Use Venting Tool

1. Detect Barotrauma:  Check for fish bloating, eye bulging, or stomach protrusion.
2. Handle and Prep:  Quickly and minimally handle the fish. Place fish on a wet, stable surface and secure gently.
3. Venting:  Find the spot 1 – 2 inches behind the pectoral fin. Gently puncture at a 45 degree angle with the venting tool, avoiding deep insertion.
4. Release:  Carefully return the vented fish to the water.

Tip! Wet your hands before handling fish to prevent damaging its protective slime coating. Don't use gloves or towels, as this will remove the protective slime.

Federal regulations require a venting tool on board every fishing vessel. New Florida regulations as of 2023 require every fishing vessel to have either a venting tool or descending device in State & Federal waters. This fish venting tool is a must-have to comply with US fishing laws in all Federal waters.
