GPX files are a universal file type that can be read by many different software programs. Our GPX files conform to the GPX XML standard established by Topograpfix.com.
GPX files contain only 4 fields: NAME, DESCRIPTION, LATITUDE, LONGITUDE
We use a 6 digit code for the Name field and the Description field contains the site name and abbreviation for the materials and some have the length for sites like ships.
All GPX files must have the GPS coordinates in the Decimal Degree format so when we create our files our Decimal Minutes format is automatically converted. Below is a screen shot of a section of a GPX file.
When you import our GPX file into your GPS software it is automatically converted to the setting in your software defaults.
